Embattled Gambian political activist Bubacarr Bob Keita has issued a public apology following widespread backlash over his decision to disclose a private conversation he had with President Adama Barrow. The conversation, which had been arranged through Keita’s father-in-law - the Director General of the Gambia Revenue Authority - was made public via Keita’s social media, drawing condemnation and causing a rift within his own family.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Keita admitted that the release was a “regrettable decision” made during a period of heightened emotions after his detention during a protest in May. He acknowledged that sharing the conversation “overstepped a boundary of trust” and “critically undermined the authority of the Head of State.”
Keita extended his apology to President Barrow, his father-in-law Mr. Darboe, and his family, stating:
“I ask for forgiveness… from all those who may have been disappointed by my actions.”
He concluded the statement by reaffirming his commitment to leadership respect and national unity, expressing hope that the apology would foster healing and renewed trust.
