The modern green ferry, which can accommodate up to 2,000 passengers, is expected to significantly ease travel along one of the countryโ€™s busiest crossing points. The Banjulโ€“Barra route serves as a vital link connecting the capital city to communities in the North Bank Region, and the new vessel will help reduce congestion and waiting times for commuters and vehicles.

Authorities say the ferry is designed with improved capacity and efficiency to support the growing number of passengers who rely on the crossing daily for work, trade, and travel.

The introduction of the ferry forms part of ongoing efforts by the government to modernise the countryโ€™s maritime transport system and enhance mobility across the River Gambia.
