GUNJUR DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION PRESS RELEASE

Today, we celebrate the acquittal and discharge of the case against Gunjur environmentalists who were arrested and charged for removing illegal pipes installed by Golden Lead Fishmeal Factory on Gunjur beach. Although on the day the pipes were removed over 100 people were present and took part in the activity, only the following were arrested: They are: Amadou Scattred Janneh, Omar (Diamond) Darboe, Alagi Kaku Bojang, Ousman Sanneh, Foday Karl Darboe, and Lamin Jassey. We applaud the judge who ruled "No Case" in this hearing. We also thank Lamin J. Darboe, a native of Gunjur, for representing the environmentalists from the beginning to the end of this case. The outcome of this case shows that democracy and an independent judicial system does exist in The Gambia. We also applaud the love and dedication all Gambians share with GDA and Gunjur. Thank you. Sincerely, Gunjur Development Association Executive
