The Gunjur Development Forum wishes to thank all of our donors for supporting our efforts to preserve and protect our environment. The furum has raised a little over $2600 and funds have thus far been disbursed as follows.

On 6/13/17, $308 have been sent to the Taskforce in Gunjur for expenses on Evidence gathering, Water sample collection and Testing, Transportation, Copying and Printing, Meetings and Logistics. These were in reference to The Golden Lead Company operation in Gunjur.

On 7/5/17, $449 have been sent for Transportation , printing, consultative meetings with government agencies and National Environment Agency and Processing of the Summon Statement in Brikama and the Legal Case filing at the Banjul High Court.

Public sensitizations to make people aware of the dangers of environmental degradation via radio programs has also been sponsored by the GDF.

As we strive to protect our environment from the negative effects of Fish meal processing, we are mindful of the fact that the detriments of deforestation and sand mining cannot be ignored as we have already seen sea erosion and its effects on our women folk’s vegetable gardening. It is against this backdrop that we in the Diaspora in collaboration with the Gunjur Taskforce, The Gunjur Project, GEPADG (Gunjur Environmental Protection and Development Group), ECGG (Environmental Concerned Group Gunjur), Department of Geology, and Footstep Eco-Lodge are embarking on an operation to plant more trees on Saturday July 29, 2017.

To buttress our enthusiasm and support for this effort, The Gunjur Development Forum is contributing $300 towards the planting of more trees and logistics to supplement the efforts of our colleagues on the ground in this effort.
