The initiative aims to make business education more accessible to male entrepreneurs who face language and educational barriers.

BE REEL Gambia has successfully launched a new training component for men under its Julaya-Silo for Men programme, following a positive evaluation of the existing initiative.

The new component is designed to support male entrepreneurs who are not fluent in English or face difficulties participating fully in the organisationโ€™s mainstream business training workshops, which are conducted entirely in English.

The programme will be delivered by Lamin Ba Touray, Senior Programme Officer at BE REEL Gambia, and rolled out across communities and clusters within and beyond Gunjur. Participation will be free of charge.

The launch follows regular feedback and strong recommendations from community leaders who called for alternative training opportunities for entrepreneurs unable to access BE REELโ€™s mainstream programmes.

The introduction of the new menโ€™s training component builds on BE REEL Gambiaโ€™s experience in developing inclusive business education programmes.

Two years ago, the organisation introduced a similar initiative for women who could neither read nor write or were unable to participate effectively in English-language training sessions.

That programme is delivered by Mansey Jabang, BE REEL Programme Officer and Coordinator for Womenโ€™s Programmes, and has already benefited hundreds of women entrepreneurs.

By extending this approach to men, BE REEL Gambia aims to ensure that language proficiency and educational background do not prevent entrepreneurs from accessing business knowledge and developing their enterprises.

Speaking about the initiative, the Programme Director of BE REEL Gambia reaffirmed the organisationโ€™s commitment to inclusive and accessible business education.

โ€œWe are not only committed to providing unique, high-quality business education through effective and refined teaching methods, but we are also committed to ensuring that our programmes are inclusive and accessible to all participants regardless of their educational background, gender, or location,โ€ the Programme Director said.

The director added that the organisation had worked tirelessly over the years to improve the quality of its services and reduce barriers preventing entrepreneurs from accessing business education.

Since its inception, BE REEL Gambia has trained more than 400 entrepreneurs across Gunjur and surrounding communities.

Beyond its training sessions, the charity provides additional support to participants in its regular programmes through one-to-one coaching, networking opportunities and knowledge-sharing events.

These activities are intended to help entrepreneurs strengthen their business knowledge, exchange experiences and apply what they learn to their enterprises.

The Programme Director also expressed appreciation to BE REELโ€™s founders, Dr Nicola Swan and Dr Trevor Long, for their continued support in guiding programme delivery, developing training manuals and strategies, and building the capacity of local staff.

Both founders are senior lecturers with more than three decades of experience teaching masterโ€™s and PhD students around the world.

The launch of the new menโ€™s training component marks another step in BE REEL Gambiaโ€™s efforts to widen access to business education and ensure that more entrepreneurs in Gunjur and surrounding communities have opportunities to develop their business skills, regardless of their educational background or English-language proficiency.
