The walk saw participantion from Gunjur- born top constitutional lawyer, Dr Lamin J Darbo who for the second time walked with others to promote walking for better health. Dr Amadou Scattred Janneh also took part the in the sessions.
The events are being organised by Micorbiologist Ahmed Manjang and his team of volunteers to promote health and reduce the impact of lack of exercise on health in the community.
Speaking to Gunjuronline, Ahmed Manjang said the idea and proposal of the Walk 4 Health came from Lamin Mbakau Jammeh who was attending similar monthly event in Brikama with High Court Judge, Justice Ebrima Jaiteh.
According to Ahmed, the Walk for Healh was initially being done by GDA but has now attracted other like minded individuals in the community passionate about promoting health through walking.
The primary objective of the new initiative is to help fend off hypertension and diabetes in the community which is a major concern. The group has bigger ambitions in promoting healthy lifestyles through regular exercise and walking is an effective way in fighting some health conditions, Manjang concluded.
Walk 4 Health takes place weekly on Saturday morning from 7am and currently covers a total of eight kilometres but this may be increased to sixteen kilometres due to popular demand.
