Momodou Sabally: ’We lost the battle but we will win the war’

As newly minted National People’s Party notched a duo of electoral wins in Niamina West and Kerr Jarga by-elections, UDP heavy weight Momodou Sabally insists his party‘s fortunes are not in peril come 2021 elections.

NPP accumulated a total of 1718 votes compared to 805 votes for GDC/UDP alliance. In Kerr Jarga councilorship contest, NPP polled 2327 votes, UDP 219 , APRC 193 while GDC got 642 votes

“We didn’t get what we wanted, but I see that as the normal course of elections.Even the president elect of America Joe Biden lost some states before he eventually won, which extended the wait for the eventual winner. That’s why I believe we can still lose the battle and win the war. We are vying for wins in different parts of the country so it’s only natural to lose some and win some.Even the prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) lost some battles and won some. Even the ones he lost taught him lessons for the future to know who are the true believers and loyalists.

We should be patient because NPP followers who don’t know any better would use it against us for provocation. What happened in Niamina and Kerr Jarga is the classic example of giving a fool a long rope to hang himself. By winning these two seats with explosive vote buying, the NPP has gotten the necessary long rope that will hang this ill-fated white horse in 2021”.

The former Secretary General and head of civil service added the low voter turnout represents evidence that Hamat Bah and his colleague ministers “actually used the D7 million budget Barrow gave them to buy votes”.
