Updated: Sep 13, 2019

By Sainey Darboe:

The leader of the United Democratic Party, Hon. Ousainou Darboe, has disclosed he wanted to resign his position as Vice President, but changed his mind due to intervention from his senior party apparatchik.

Lawyer Darboe has said that he wanted to resign as VP but his party intervened to stop him from resigning

Speaking in an interview with Sheriff Bojang Junior of The Chronicle over the weekend, Darboe spoke of the fundamental shift in his relationship with the president that pushed him to the brink of submitting his resignation.

His words: “I wanted to resign immediately I came back from Francophone summit, but the UDP executive asked me to stay on”.

Pressed why he wanted to hand in his resignation, Darboe retorted he was impelled by a desire for freedom to build his party.

Being in a cabinet position, he said, imposed controls and restrictions that made it impossible for him to make certain pronouncements or partake in certain party activities.
