We thank Gail Howell, Canada, for her generous donation of D49,055. Ms. Howell’s donation was used at Gunjur Health Centre maternity ward under the care of Gunjur Development Association on 29 December, 2018.
On 16 January, 2019 an amount of D6,886 was used to buy food items for the community-based organisation ‘Breakfast For The Sick’ and benefited the women in the maternity ward.
GDA spent the remaining D42,169 on purchasing items for new mothers to receive as gifts following the delivery of their babies. We spoke with a number of new mums and asked what they would like to receive following the birth of their child and from the feedback of this survey we made the purchases on Ms. Howell’s behalf. We made 40 bags containing the following items:
• Diapers
• Baby talc
• Juice for mum
• Baby soap
• Soap for mum
• Baby cream
• Body cream for mum
• Sanitary towels
• Baby socks
• Baby hat
• Baby talc
• Vaseline
• Biscuits for mum
• Ovaltine for mum
• Face cloth
• Towel
Presentation of the donation to the maternity ward was made on 7th April, 2019 by several members of the GDA Executive. The items were given directly to the nurse in charge of the health centre. On April 7, 2019, three new mothers received the first of the bags.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Ms. Howell for entrusting GDA with the task of fulfilling her wish of helping Gunjur women. We look forward to more partnerships with Ms. Howell and other development partners wanting to help the community of Gunjur.
