Corruption investigation into top fisheries official suffers setback

The ministry of justice has pressed pause on investigations into top fisheries official, Bamba Banja, who is under the magnifying glass for unethical conduct in the sector.

The disclosure, according to The Point, was made by the justice minister Dawda Jallow to government spokesperson Ebrima Sankareh who intimated the decision was made due to deficiencies in the report submitted by the police department.

He said:

“The justice minister finally reviewed the case file and they feel there are some gaps that needed to be filled and they have been returned file back to the Inspector General of Police’s desk for further review and resubmission to the Justice Ministry”.

The permanent secretary of Fisheries and Water Resources, Dr. Bamba Banja, is under corruption investigation for allegedly accepting bribes from foreign operators in the sector after a recording of him soliciting bribes was leaked to the media.
