EDITORIAL: It's A Welcome Development, If..

Gunjur Sand Mining Site

When the news broke out that the Geology Department has entered into a deal/agreement with the Concern Environmental Group of Gunjur to take care of the rehabilitation and reforestation of the depleted sand dunes and the destructed only community forest reserved in Gunjur, there were massive celebrations among Gunjurians and environmentalists around the world. We, @Gunjur - The Voice of Dabanani, welcomes this development if it wasn't meant to silence the activists in raising their concerns. We have seen it often happened around the world including the Gambia where authorities give mere promises just to silence the masses from raising their concerns. We are watching with very high sensitive lenses and with keen interest as time pass by while events unfold. We are also calling on the Department of Geology to make good their promise. Our people have been environmentally exploited for over 22 eventful years with impunity. Thus, it's high time they are considered and seriously compensated.
