PROFILE: Lamin J. Darbo is a UK and US educated lawyer, as well as founder of Dabanani Law Centre in Sukuta.

Born and raised in the sprawling costal settlement of Gunjur, the man of the learned profession commenced his educational oddysey in the local primary school. He would go on to get his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Tennessee in the United States.

In the grip of high patriotic fervor, Lamin J. Darbo traced his steps to where it all began; making his egress from the US to serve his country of provenances.

In his stint as a magistrate and senior assistant secretary to the Gambian judiciary respectively ,Lamin J. Darbo left an indelible mark with his acquittal and discharge of Brikama Imam Alhaji Karamo Touray and co-accused, making him a profile in courage in an atmosphere of tyranny thick with intimidation and executive overreach.

In his life-long quest for education, he again confronted the privations and deprivations of immigration to pursue a Master’s degree in International Law. He earned a call to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in 2001. A call to the Bar of the Republic of The Gambia would soon follow in 2003.

With a Bachelor’s degree in History from Berea College in Kentucky, USA, as well as post graduate diploma in law, LJD enjoys reading history in his spare time, and writing essays on constitutional law as part of his contributions to The Gambia’s political discourse.

Please join us in celebrating this fine lawyer and pray that he continues to serve The Gambia through his knowledge.
